She Ain’t Ready!

The Whine-Wine Blog

Because every rant, rave or whine goes down better with a great glass of wine!!

I love to write. I love helping others write and self-publish. I believe that’s my niche. I’m building my business – Poetry In Motion- around assisting others to write. I help with all kinds of writing whether it’s your first novel, content for your blog, resumes, business letters, etc. I support. When people call me, I help. That’s what we’re supposed to do right?

Well, I go to a lot of local author/writer’s events. I support their causes. I love the fact that most of the female artist/writers/creative types spout women power and sisterhood. So, when I reached out to some local writes asking for help/mentorship, I expect help? “Crickets.” Yes, you guessed it that was the overwhelming response I received.

Why is it so hard for other women to help other women, particularly African American women? For the life of me, I just don’t understand this. Now I know people are afraid the person they’re trying to help will use them, embarrass them or not live up to the expectation of doing a great job. But isn’t that on them? The helper shouldn’t try to predict the helpee’s behavior. The helper is only there to help. The person that receives the help should be grateful and appreciative but if not then that ungratefulness will ricochet back to them.

What happened to all that feminine power, girl power, women power or whatever you what to call it? Aren’t we supposed to stick together and help each other grow? We have to do better. Together we are stronger. Together we are powerful. Together we can rise. And I’m doing my part. I’ve decided to start the Black Women’s Business Collective (BWBC) where we share, create, barter and educate each other with our various businesses. Our first meeting was powerful and motivating! If you want to join BWBC, hit me up and let’s change this negative stigma that Black women don’t help each other!

Enjoy the journey! I know I am with my extra-large glass of Chateau St. Michelle Riesling in my hand!!
