Tragedy

The Whine-Wine Blog

Because every rant, rave or whine goes down better with a great glass of wine!!

There’s some much tragedy going on in our country. Racial tensions are at an ultimate high. The recent mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton are a testament to this tragedy. We have a president that is a bully leading the charge against the very thing that makes America great – diversity. Our diversity has been woven in the fabric of this society. Not one of us is indigenous to America except for the Native American Indian. That makes all of us immigrants hence the notion that American is a nation of immigrants.

We have so many other issues that need to be addressed like job inequality, global warming, gun violence, hunger, racism, and poverty. We don’t need to watch a bunch of privileged politicians argue and fight about getting Trump out of the office. We need action. We need them to fight for our everyday rights. What are we, as a country, as a people, as an individual going to do about the issues that affect real people? You know the people that don’t have millions, the ones that are living paycheck to paycheck, the ones that our government has consistently neglected.

This is our America, and we need to take a stand for it. I went to an author chat/book signing put on by the Gwinnett County Libraries featuring Terence Lester. I was touched and moved by his inspiring talk. You see, Terence Lester is using his voice to shine a light on American homelessness and poverty. He walked from Atlanta to Washington, DC and from Atlanta to Memphis to shine a light on the plight of the homeless. Lester even spent a week living as a homeless man amongst the homeless in Atlanta just to get a firsthand account of their hardships.

Lester started a nonprofit organization called Love Beyond Walls which focuses on poverty awareness and community mobilization. This is his contribution to what’s plaguing America. What can you do? My small donation was purchasing his book “I See You – How Love Opens Our Eyes To Invisible People.” I’m also using my gift as a writer to share his information with you and making you aware of his organization.

Lester challenged us to reach out to at least one person to help or to get involved in some way. I’m leaving you with the same challenge. Reach out to someone that you know is in need. Contact a shelter to volunteer. Or reach out to Lester’s organization to see if you can help. So what will you do?

In honor of getting my business incorporated. I am giving five people a free 30-minute consultation that’s a value of $97.
